My Dear Chika,
Having read through all the posts to this Freeserve help group for the last twelve months, I have come to the conclusion that you are not long for this world. You get upset and are rude to people who post general questions apparently quite oblivious to the fact that the people who ask these questions are mainly, by definition, novices on the computer scene. It is not helped by the fact that this group appears first in the list of "Help" groups and perhaps you need to be reminded that very few people these days have even heard of Acorn or Risc. It is only those people of advanced age like myself and presumably yourself, that have ever heard of them and only "stick in the muds" like yourself that would continue to use them. Were it not for those people that you so belligerently harass when they dare to ask a question, you would appear to get very few posts to this group at all.
Why not try to help the newcomers to our fraternity as I doubt you were born with any great level of expertise on the subject and it is unfair of you to expect more of others than you would from yourself.

imho chika is very often polite, and helpful to posters - most indeed of
whom do not use RiscOS.
were it not for his (often helpful) answers the few posters here would have
no reply at all.
(I note in passing that i have never seen u help anyone here!)

PS - why did u send in html, rather than text?

Dear Alan,

I did not post my comments in order to start an argument. I merely noted
that somebody who posts to the wrong group is, by definition, not an
experienced user and therefore it would be nicer to try to help the person
rather than criticise them.
With regards to your question as to why I posted in HTML rather than text,
the reason is quite simple. I normally frequent stationery newsgroups and
as such it would be rather pointless to receive or post in text. However,
to please you, I hope you will note I have changed the format of this post.
When I have nothing much to occupy myself, I often peruse other groups. I
am saddened to see that the attitude of many people is to ridicule the posts
of those with less knowledge and experience of computers. Very often, by
making a point of reading all the replies by a particular person it is
abundantly clear that the replies show a sad lack of real knowledge or
understanding of their subject. I am sure this is not the case regarding
"Chika" However you will see if you read through all the responses to
queries posted to this group, that examples of bad and incorrect information
are given in some replies. We all have our individual preferences but I
doubt that anybody with any knowledge of computers could deny that the
Windows XP operating system is the most stable and foolproof system there
has ever been or that AMD make the most reliable and cost effective CPUs.
Obviously this is not a view shared by some of the posters to this group.
As to why you have not seen me helping anyone on this group, it is because
as I previously stated, my area of knowledge is not concerned with Acorn or
Risc operating systems.

In this day, given that IT has been taught at schools/colleges as a main-
stream subject for at least 20 years, almost everybody under the age of
forty should have at least a rudimentary understanding of computers, at
least enough to know how to handle most 'little' problems that crop up.

Given that this is a group for users of Acorn Computers, and computers
based upon technology developed by Acorn, it's hardly surprising that some
of the information given to windows users is not entirely accurate. If an
acorn user were to ask you to describe how to configure the default font
on an acorn machine could you answer it?

If you want stable you go for anything EXCEPT Microsoft.
If you want foolproof, good luck, there isn't such a beasty.

Having had experience of a number of Cyrix, AMD, and Intel based PCs I
can say with some certainty that the AMD chips are NOT the most reliable.

But, with the number of windows users who do post their problems in here,
you could help them.

Alan.

What we have here is a troll. Actually, I did start a response to that
vitriolic rant, but I really can't be bothered about it. Thanks for the
vote of confidence but it really doesn't matter. Chances are that "Des" is
either somebody that knows me from another group that is trying to wind me
up, or got a bug up their rear end because they posted here before by
mistake and regret their embarrassment, trying to blame me for their own
mistake, or is just fishing.

No, you haven't. Trolls rarely ever stop to help people.

Probably because said troll is posting using MS Outlook Express set to
post HTML. For Usenet posting, I normally switch that off if I'm using
Outlook (yes, I use quite a few OS's. I only use RISC OS from home).
