Post by Phil RussellPlease can anyone tell me if there's a way of checking my Freeserve
account, in Outlook Express, while on a different computer?
It can be done. However there are certain restrictions that you have to
bear in mind. The most important is that you need to be logged into a
Freeserve account with the appropriate details in the email client for
accessing the email box concerned. You can probably work out what problems
can be found with this.
Post by Phil Russellit is possible however it is far from practical. outlook express is not
the same as hotmail and generally speaking you need to be at the
computer that you set the account up on.
Actually, it isn't a good idea to set up too many systems to access your
SMTP/POP3 access, for security reasons amongst other things. You would be
better to use the webmail access when accessing remotely. You also avoid
the possible problem of not being able to read one email because it got
downloaded to another one.
Now to other things. Hope you are paying attention.
Look at the subject group. It says "freeserve.help.acorn". Now I know that
Acorn itself are no longer around, but the systems, the users and the
operating systems certainly are, and this is a help group for those very
people. It is *not* a help group for Microsoft users. At all. Nope. Not no
way. I've even been known to remove freeserve.help.acorn from new
installations of Windows PC's for that very reason.
There are other groups concerned with help for Windows users, for example
freeserve.help.windows.mail and groups for more general help, such as
freeserve.help.anytime or freeserve.help.misc. Yes, I know some of the
folk there are a little eccentric, but you will get help a lot quicker
there than here.
